A kinetic sculpture for two string instruments and one reel-to-reel tape machine. The work takes its title from the instrumentation of numerous experimental compositions of the mid 1960s in which musicians performed alongside a pre-recorded tape, or occasionally with a live recording and playback system. This piece aimed to bring these elements into a physical and sculptural relationship rather than a compositional one, so here the tape loop is extended to play all the strings of both instruments, while simultaneously recording the sound produced.

The extreme harmonics produced in this recording were a complete surprise, a product of subtle variations in pressure on different strings as the tension in the loop fluctuated. I owe a huge debt to Deanna Bernthal for the tuning in this recording.
